National Winner of Visit Britain's Excellence in England, Gold and Silver Awards for Self-Catering Holiday of the Year 1998 and 2003.
Bruern is a tiny hamlet in the Evenlode Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the heart of the Cotswolds.
The 12 award winning cottages were converted from the mellow stone Victorian stable yard and outbuildings of Bruern Abbey, a handsome 18th century country house visible over the trees opposite.
They are stylish, luxurious and unusually well equipped, more country house than cottage, with open fires and four poster beds as well as state of the art bathrooms and kitchens.
They sleep 2 - 10. Each has a private enclosed terrace with hardwood garden furniture, a big white umbrella and barbecue, and many have their own secluded gardens too. At Bruern you will not feel uncomfortably aware of your neighbours.
In the beautifully landscaped gardens and grounds there is tennis, croquet and swimming. Children have their own special play area. There are wonderful wildlife walks in the neighbouring Nature Reserve at Foxholes and along the Oxfordshire Way (which runs past the Stable Yard), and fly-fishing, golf and riding are available near at hand.
Bruern's central location between Burford and Stow-on- the-Wold makes it an excellent base for exploring the Cotswolds: Oxford is half an hour away, Stratford-upon-Avon and the Shakespeare National Theatre under an hour, and Cheltenham (racing and the annual Literary Festival) much the same.
Self catering accommodation, lovingly converted from old farm buildings set round a stunning paved courtyard with water garden and adjoining the owners' house, these four award-winning, very individual cottages offer guests the ultimate in comfort, quality and cleanliness and a chance to enjoy the high standards of craftsmanship which is the hallmark of this idyllic retreat.
Furniture and fittings have been built by local craftsmen in English hardwoods, much of it from the farm's own trees, and a local blacksmith has been commissioned to create imaginative ironwork to enhance many of the doors, windows and fireplaces.
The courtyard with its gracious terraces, intimate herb borders and magnificent views is generously provided with seating areas where guests can relax in peace and tranquility.
The kitchens have electric hobs and ovens, microwaves, fridge/freezers and dishwashers.
Good quality crockery, cooking equipment, iron and ironing board provided. All bedrooms have 5 or 6 foot wide beds with firm mattresses, wardrobes and generous storage. Electricity, central heating, linen and logs for the fire are all included.
Beechnut has a spacious shower room. Hazelnut and Chestnut have luxury fitted bathrooms, with baths, overhead showers, all have washbasins and W.C.s. Chestnut, Walnut and Cobnut have bidets. Walnut and Cobnut also have walk - in shower.
There is a colour T.V., music centre and telephone in each apartment. The sofa beds are good quality and easy to use. There are washing and drying facilities on-site.
