The small village of Slimbridge is 3.5 miles from the market town of Dursley in the English county of Gloucestershire. The Gloucester and Sharpness Canal runs through the village, and the Ernst Cook Trust runs the local Slimbridge Estate, where walkers can access managed paths through the woodland and dairy farms. Other attractions include a boating station along by the canal, the Church of St John The Evangelist, a listed building, and a small number of shops and pubs.
The village of Slimbridge is the headquarters of WWT (Wild Fowl & Wetlands Trust) and the first wetland centre opened by Sir Peter Scott in 1946.
Its award-winning visitor centre overlooks 325 hectares of nationally and internationally protected wetlands including a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), a Ramsar Site and Special Protection Area (SPA).
