New Accommodation Rating System for UK Hotels, Bed and Breakfasts, Holiday Cottages and Inns from 2007
What is the difference between a four-star hotel and a four-diamond
hotel? After years of baffling travellers with various symbols and criteria, official
UK accommodation ratings are getting simpler. From 2007, newly released guidebooks
will be switching over to a standardised STAR grading system for all Hotels, Guest
Houses, Bed and Breakfasts, Inns and Pubs, and Self-Catering Cottages in Scotland, England
and Wales.
The new ratings are based on a one to five-star (top rated) system
and will see all grading bodies following the same criteria for the first time. Visit
Britain, Visit Scotland, Visit Wales and the Automobile Association (AA) are joint
partners in the project and are now applying the new rules to their on-site inspections.
From now on, all four bodies will follow criteria called the National Quality Assurance Standards and they aim to have all accommodation standardised by 2008. Although the scheme is voluntary, Visit Britain says they cannot promote accommodation that has opted out.
Please Note:-
On this web site, where appropriate, we shall be gradually
changing the Diamond symbol to Stars as and when Accommodation Providers inform
us of their new inspections.
Please also note that whilst many of the Accommodation Providers
advertising with Cotswolds.Info are
officially accredited to one of the Official inspection bodies there are some of our advertisers
who prefer to remain independent and still offer the highest standards obtainable.
