The market town of Berkeley is situated
in Gloucestershire near the River Severn in the part of a valley
known as the Vale of Berkeley. The countryside is agriculturally
rich and famous for its production of 'double gloucester' cheese.
Berkeley town is located between
the south bank of the River
Severn and the M5
motorway.
The town is mid-way between Bristol and Gloucester and
is built on a small hill in the Vale of Berkeley. The town is noted
for Berkeley Castle where the imprisoned Edward II was murdered.
