Since taking over in October 2005, proprietor Dawn Winchester
has worked tirelessly to realize her vision of providing
a high quality establishment which gives equal priority
to food, drink, service, and overall ambience. Situated
on Minchinhampton Common on the outskirts of pretty Box
Village (just up the ‘W’ from Nailsworth),
the Halfway House has already changed dramatically since
October. The first priority was to re-enable the kitchen
by means of a total refit, and to recruit two Head Chefs
(Nigel and Heather, known locally as ‘Food for Thought’)
who shared Dawn’s belief that food served from the
Halfway House should always be from fresh produce, and
should be sourced locally.
There are currently 5 superbly kept Real Ales on the handpumps,
plus a traditional draught cider, Black Rat. The ales include
the award-winning Timothy Taylor Landlord, Bob from the
local Wickwar brewery, Otter Ale from Honiton in Devon,
an ale from the brand new Nailsworth Brewery which is proving
extremely popular, and a Guest Ale which changes every
week. Already the quality has convinced CAMRA to include
the Halfway House in its 2007 guide.

Howard Parker and his team look forward to welcoming you to this beautifully situated and historic freehouse, parts of which date back to the 17th Century. Today the Inn is renowned for its friendly atmosphere, fine ales and good food. Including the famous ‘2in1’ Pie.
What is a ‘2in1’?
Over twenty years ago the ‘2in1’ was created at the Weighbridge, since then it has become a firm favourite with our guests and is known the world over.
The ‘2in1’ is served in a large bowl. Half of the bowl contains the filling of your choice and the other half is brimming with home made cauliflower cheese. The chosen filling is topped with freshly made ‘melt in the mouth’ pastry and cooked to order.
The ‘2in1’ bowl is served straight from the oven on a wooden board and is best eaten with a spoon and fork.
We are proud to announce that the Weighbridge has been awarded five stars by the department of environmental health for its levels of food hygeine and safety.
Kids & Pets- Both are welcome at the Weighbridge.
Groups including people under the age of eighteen use the tables in the kitchen bar, the hayloft or, weather permitting, the garden. The kitchen Bar is on the ground floor but there are stairs up to the hayloft and garden. We do not serve alcohol to anyone under eighteen, and ask parents to keep their children under control and out of the bar areas. Well behaved dogs on a lead are also welcome.

Sophie’s is a popular family run French restaurant located in a Grade II listed building in the heart of a pretty Cotswold village. It offers a daily changing lunch menu Tuesday to Friday and also opens on selected evenings (usually Saturdays).
Sophie cooks in the French country way: dishes are simple, with no fuss or pretension, as taught by her Basque mother, the type of food you might enjoy when visiting a French family home.
The evening menu is also uncomplicated: a set price for a two, three, four or five course meal, It is fantastic value, reflecting the overriding French restaurant philosophy: high quality well cooked and affordable. The 100% French wine list is selected and imported by Sophie's husband, Mark and concentrates on wines and vignerons personally known to them.
Lunch: 12 noon to 2pm, Tuesday to Friday. Sophie presents a daily changing menu. Evenings: Sophie's Restaurant is open only on selected evenings (usually Saturdays from 7.30pm). For this reason it is wise to book in advance to reserve a table.
