II - such is its importance in the history of Minchinhampton and local architecture.
Built in 1833 by David Ricardo, the then owner of Gatcombe Park, Park Terrace stands
proudly above Windmill Road. The construction follows the vernacular architecture
in both style and materials and the individual dwellings now form most attractive
cottage homes, of which this is a particularly fine example.
The cottage provides an ideal base from which to explore
this beautiful area, with acres of National Trust common land, the Golden
Valleys (Laurie Lee Country) and close to the thriving towns of Stroud, Nailsworth
and Cirencester.
'I remember, too, the
light on the slopes, long shadows in tufts and hollows, with cattle,
brilliant as painted china, treading their echoing shapes' - Laurie Lee
It is situated just a short walk to the centre of Minchinhampton
with close proximity to shops, including the famous butchers cafes and pub,
and very good chinese take away.
