A
charming and beautifully proportioned Tudor Cotswold Manor
House set in acres of stunning grounds and gardens. Luxuriously
furnished. Small village, near Stow-on-the-Wold.
Available for weekends or by the week. Sleeps 10.
The Manor at Temple Guiting has been a privately owned house since the 15th century and is, for the first time being offered as a unique short term weekend or holiday let. The Manor is steeped in history and it has been reported as being “one of the finest of the smaller Tudor Manor Houses”.
The core of the house is believed to date back to the 14th century and may well have been associated with the Knights Templars. It was thoroughly overhauled c.1580, when it apparently became a summer residence of the Bishops of Oxford.
According to the archives at Kew, the house was in the Beale family from 1469 to 1774 and the letter 'B' for Beale is depicted in one of the stained glass windows. The house is also mentioned in the Domesday book.
Temple Guiting is a quintessential Cotswolds village, quietly tucked away but with Stow-on-the-Wold, Broadway and Bourton-the-Water all in close proximity. There are many local historical interests and Temple Guiting is said to be linked to the Knights Templar.
The accommodation consists of 3 double bedrooms (inc one four poster) all with their own bathroom, plus an additional shower room. All have top quality fittings, beautiful soft towels and bath robes. There are two further bedrooms in the attic space comprising a double room and a twin room (one bathroom) and a TV area. Ground floor comprises deluxe kitchen (including warming oven so great for catering), exceptionally large oven, dishwasher etc. Utility room, one dining hall (not large but is classed as a hall), two drawing rooms, and a TV/snug room. There are two staircases and a further one which is closed off but is a great original ornamental feature now. There are two dovecots not currently used due to planning restraints but we do have some plans for one of the rooms which should not need any planning consent.
The gardens are extensive and designed by Jinny Blom who designed a garden with HRH Prince of Wales. The gardens are set in 14.5 acres and include a lake and a very fine astro turfed tennis court. There is also a table tennis area.
You are offered assistance with booking of theatres, horse riding, golf etc and the possible service of outside caterers/chef as required or requested. The aim is not to turn anyone away who would like additional facilities.
Enter the West Wing of this Gothic Revival Manor House, be greeted by a parade of large medieval gargoyles and figures from Evesham Abbey, and you know this is special. The house has been sympathetically restored and now offers Bed and Breakfast for discerning guests from £42.00 per person per night. Family bedroom with Kingsize double bed and twin beds with private bathroom and shower. Family room, 1 double and 1 single bed with en-suite bathroom.
The Abbey Manor is steeped in history and set in forty acres of beautiful mature park land adjoining the historic site of the battle of Evesham in 1265. An obelisk in the grounds commemorates the battle and those who fell. There is a folly known as the Leicester Tower erected in memory of Simon de Montfort, Earl of Leicester, and various medieval artefacts can be seen in the house and grounds. Abbey manor is situated on the edge of the Cotswolds with extensive views over the River Avon to the Malvern Hills and beyond. It is just 100 miles from London, 14 miles from Stratford-upon-Avon and 12 miles from the M5 motorway. Bring wellies in damp weather for a full walk round the grounds: Along the way you will see a small lake of lillies which is being restored and pass monastic relics including abbotts' tombs and an intricate seat of medieval stonework. Until recently this was a neglected, uncared for sleeping beauty: Now it is a hauntingly beautiful 30 acres of woodland, historic relics, mature trees and lush grassland. Allow a little time to peruse through the 'before and after' photographs and scrap books which John and Jill have put together. The whole is a treat not to be missed!
