A 17th Century thatched Country Inn combining modern essentials with old world charm, Offering excellent food and accommodation
Close to the River Cherwell, the pretty village of Clifton has many interesting and attractive buildings. One of the most attractive is undoubtedly "The Duke of Cumberland's Head", a 17th century Hornton stone building with a fine thatched roof and a large garden with lovely views and listed in the Good Pub and Beer guides for many years. The interior is equally appealing, with a vast stone inglenook fireplace, black beams and rustic furniture. In the mid-19th century the licensee James Hall ran the inn not only as a place for refreshment but also as a grocery and a bakery - with a shop selling beaver hats for good measure.
The present landlord, Nick Huntingdon, undertook a major refurbishment of the unused attic rooms with his architect; six bedrooms were constructed and individually designed to allow for the history and charm of the building. All the rooms are en-suite and provide comfortable and spacious accommodation, with television, tea and coffee making facilities. Well behaved dogs are permitted in the rooms.
Tariff: Single occupancy £60.00 - Double occupancy £75.00 - Additional person in room add £15.00 Full English breakfast is included
