"He that travels in theory has no inconveniences; he has shade and sunshine at
his disposal, and wherever he alights finds tables of plenty." - Samuel Johnson
Cotswold Restaurants and Tea Shops cater for all tastes and can be found extensively throughout the Cotswolds region, each with its own style and specialty.
The English Tea Shop is known throughout the world for it's traditional style, freshly made cream cakes, and pots of tea - a style emulated from the middle east to eastern Europe but never quite like those to be found in England and in particular in the Cotswolds where the tradition of taking tea dates back 300 years.
The great perception by foreign visitors of English restaurant food not having a very good reputation has long been laid to rest and one of the great modern day pre-occupations of the English is the maintenance of high standards of cuisine to equal and if not better their counterparts in Europe.

The Swan at Southrop scoops Restaurant
of the Year award
The Swan at Southrop has beaten off stiff competition to be named The Good Food Guide Readers’ Restaurant of the Year.
The award was presented to The Swan at Southrop by top chef Jason Atherton at the Which? Awards ceremony held at the British Museum today. In line with the theme ‘Who cares, wins’, the judges praised its impeccable customer service.
Elizabeth Carter, Consultant Editor, The Good Food Guide, says:
“We’ve been searching for a culinary gem that goes the extra mile for its customers and The Swan at Southrop exceeded our expectations. As well as the careful sourcing of local raw materials and quality cooking from Sebastian Snow, the friendly service and value for money make it the kind of place we all want at the end of our street.”
The Swan at Southrop owners, Sebastian and Lana Snow, were delighted. Sebastian said:
“We are humbled and honoured to win The Good Food Guide Readers’ Restaurant of the Year Award in only our second year of trading at The Swan. “Needless to say we owe this to the hard work of all our staff, and the loyalty of the customers who have supported us in the 20 months since we first opened.”
More than 25,000 diners nominated their favourite restaurants, pubs and cafés in this year’s hunt for the nation’s favourite restaurant. The Good Food Guide judges whittled the nominations down to a shortlist of ten regional winners, before crowning The Swan as overall winner.
