Lesley Holmes is an exceptional self-taught artist who lived and worked in Moreton-in-Marsh next to Grimes gallery and antiques in the High Street. She now lives and works in Cornwall and has a studio in Falmouth.
Lesley Holmes was born in Lusaka central Africa in 1958. Having spent her early childhood living in the bush, when she returned to England her sense of wonder at this green and very pleasant land has never failed her.
Her delightful watercolours capture the country way of life which she so enjoys. She has been a professional artist in the Cotswolds since 1982, selling work privately from annual exhibitions, which were held at either her town centre studio, or at the village of Lower Slaughter.
Her favourite subjects are the Cotswolds, animals and interiors, and she paints and draws the everyday things she sees around her from life, not from photographs. She is particularly good at drawing and painting sheep.
Lesley works in watercolour, using handmade paper and the St Petersburger Russian paints.
She illustrated three books by James Herriot - Favourite Cat Stories, Dog Stories and Animal Stories - and has published three books Cotswold Sketchbook, Venice Sketchbook and Lesley Holmes - A Sketchbook (featuring her favourite subjects, including a number of scenes from her smallholding, and many of the animals there).
