Spectacularly set on the edge of the Cotswold Escarpment

Kiftsgate Gardens are one of the hidden treasures of the Cotswolds that lay a stones throw away from the more famous Hidcote Gardens. If you have the choice choose Kiftsgate, especially in July, when the roses are in full bloom - you will be awe inspired.

Kiftsgate is even more spell bindingly magnificent! and all down to three generations of women.

Kiftsgate Court Gardens was created by the grandmother of present day owner, Anne Chambers, in the 1920's and continued by her mother from 1950 until she took over aided by her husband.

The gardens are an absolute delight for all the senses with always something to bring you back time after time.

Kiftsgate is a series of interconnecting gardens each with its own distinct character and secrets so whatever the season there is always something to discover.

The Tea Room is a delight with freshly made homemade cakes and scones for afternoon tea and a wonderful selection of salads for light lunches including homemade vegetarian tart.

Kiftsgate Court is truly a hidden treasure of the Cotswolds and frequently Anne Chambers can be seen and talked to at the garden entrance - a delightful person to meet!

A Little History of Kiftsgate

In making the garden at Kiftsgate there is no doubt that Heather Muir was greatly helped and inspired by her lifelong friend Major Lawrence Johnston, who created  Hidcote Manor Gardens closeby. The flower picture in the tea-room at Hidcote was painted directly on the wall at Kiftsgate by Major Johnson and moved to Hidcote in 1981 by the National Trust.

Kiftsgate first became well known to the gardening public after Graham Stuart Thomas's article in the Royal Horticultural Society Journal, May 1951, in which the great plantsman observed.....

"I regard this as the finest piece of skilled colour work that it has been my pleasure to see."
