The zoo is dedicated to conservation , it opened in 1836 and is known to be the oldest zoo in the world outside of a capital city.
With plans for major extensions which include a 55 hectare park, it promises to be one of the most important visitor attractions in the West of England.
The park is being designed to link specific ecosystems and conservation programs across the world with exhibits of such animals as Tigers, Brown Bears and the Bonoro Chimpanzee.
Sea life will include Sharks.
As the park will be divided into geographical areas it will be possible for the visitor to experience the Congo Tropical Forest, Sumatra Rain Forest as well as Indian Ocean Coral Reef and Ancient British woodland.
